To light a candle is to cast a shadow

Kate Forsyth
About This Quote

To light a candle is to cast a shadow means that just as a single candle can cause a shadow, so too does a single action or inaction by an individual have consequences for the group. In this case, the consequences are not always positive. We often refer to a single person as a “shadow” because of the consequences of their actions on the group. For example, a loose cannon who speaks out of turn can bring shame to the whole team.
